There is no college course available, nor book to read, to master the science of internal ballistics. It must be learned through experience—which can only be gathered within a closely guarded industry.
Ken Johnson—Shooters World’s Managing Partner of Ballistics—is our ballistics expert. For years, Ken has taught the fundamentals of internal ballistics and propellant design to both industry and the United States Department of Defense. He has developed and manufactured propellants as an R&D engineer. He has diagnosed ballistic issues and worked directly with major ammunition manufactures for more than a decade, as a TechnicalServices representative.
There is seldom such a thing as a simple loading recipe. With a myriad of propellants, cases, bullet construction, weights, hardness, primer output, extreme temperatures, shot start pressure, velocity and pressure specifications, commercial loaders seldom follow a single standard recipe. All of these variables must be accounted for and incorporated into the final ammunition product. Each can have a significant effect upon internal ballistics. One variable alone, or a combination of variables, can lead to ballistic anomalies and problems.
Our ballistics lab and technical capabilities directly support our customers. We test our products to ensure quality. We help our customers with load development. We provide advice, based upon the fundamental principles of internal ballistics.
Shooters World provides these same assistive and diagnostic capabilities to our customers. Our technical services come with the sale.
